Citrus County Vacation[ Launch Map ]

Citrus County has more than two dozen fine sites for camping or RV visits. No matter where you stop, you’ll find recreation resources close at hand. Many sites are alongside lakes or rivers, and you’ll often find on-site activities. Some camps have clubhouses with facilities for entertaining or group events such as lectures, nature talks and special presentations. The staff on hand can recommend places for your own interests, tell you where to rent equipment or hire guides, and often, make reservations for you.

Here are some suggested places where the welcome mat is out:

Primitive Campsites: Two primitive campsites within the Citrus Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest and three Southwest Florida Water Management District “Save Our Rivers” projects are at the Flying Eagle Preserve, Potts Preserve and the Chassahowitzka River Tract with campsites available by reservation. Primitive camping is also offered at Fort Cooper State Park in Inverness.

Developed Campsites: The Chassahowitzka River Campground and the Mutual Mine, Holder Mine and Horse Corrals at Tillis Hills Campgrounds within the Citrus Tracts of the Withlacoochee State Forest offer bathroom facilities, potable water and fire rings/cooking grills.
