Fort Island Gulf Beach

16000 W. Fort Island Trail, Crystal River, Fl. 34429

Summers mean beach time in Citrus County: lying in the sand, listening to seabirds and the whisper of Gulf waves on the shore; strolling along the boardwalk; baiting a hook and casting it far, hoping for a big one; and, most spectacularly, watching sunsets.

West of the City of Crystal River, the 15-acre Fort Island Gulf Beach county park offers visitors great summer variety. Getting there, you’ll enjoy the meandering nine-mile trip on Fort Island Trail through saltmarshes and natural scenery that ends at the Gulf of Mexico.

In the heart of the Nature Coast, our beach isn’t the white powder seen elsewhere but it will charm you. Stick an umbrella in the sand, watch the kids build sandcastles, and unwind. When the heat is at its peak, jump in for a swim then take a stroll on the boardwalk through natural vegetation.

The free public boat ramp at Fort Island Gulf Beach will help you get instant access to the Gulf of Mexico or the estuaries of the Crystal River. Fishing is allowed from the pier off the boardwalk. With a little patience and perhaps a dash of luck, hook a spotted sea trout or reel in a redfish. Cook it at one of the available grills and enjoy it under a beachfront pavilion.

Perhaps one of the most breathtaking sights in the entire area is a magnificent summer sunset. Fort Island Gulf Beach is the finest spot in the county to celebrate end of day, bathed in an array of pinks, reds, oranges and purples settling over the water.

Going to the beach is the quintessential summer activity, and Fort Island Gulf Beach offers something for everyone. Open daily from sunrise to sunset, admission to the park is free of charge.
